GIS: Explore the Possibilities
John Blackburn, Washington & Lee University
Lexington, VA
September 25, 2001
Carrier Library Room 37

Click here for Mr. Blackburn's PowerPoint Presentation

Mr. Blackburn described and demonstrated how Geographical Information Systems software converts tabular data into fascinating and highly informative maps. Real-life examples such as the number of people within voting districts and the number of endangered wildlife species existing within Virginia counties were shown.

GIS exists on the James Madison University campus primarily in the Department of Geographic Science and the Geology and Environmental Studies Department. In the future, JMU may see more widespread use of this extremely powerful communication tool.
