Digital Cameras Check Out

Media Resources has equipment available for faculty, staff, and students for walk-in checkout or you may call ahead to reserve equipment. Digital still cameras, MiniDV & Flash Drive Camcorders as well as other equipment such as Digital Audio Recorders. Faculty Staff and doctoral students may also check out Data & Video Projectors & Laptop Computers. Digital Video Editing

The CIT provides equipment and expert assistance in transferring analog (VHS) video to digital video, editing digital video with iMovie and other programs, and transferring digital video to analog (VHS) video or DVD. We can teach you how to edit digital videos by cropping and rearranging video segments, adding voice-over narration, music or other audio tracks, creating title and credit frames, and much more. In addition, we can assist you in converting digital video to streaming media and uploading it to a streaming media server.

Media Resources has self service Mac and Windows video editing workstations with multiple user friendly applications for student academic use. Technical support is available to assist walk-in clientele on a limited basis. Scanning Flat Art or 35mm Slides

Our scanning project stations allow you to scan flat images like photos and artwork. The image editing capabilities of these stations allow you to edit digital images, create backgrounds, or generate digital images and art. The center has eight flatbed scanners, available on both the Macintosh and PC platforms. You may also wish attend our online tutorial, Scanning Basics.

You can use our 35mm scanners to create digital images of your 35mm slides. These images can then be used to create informative classroom presentations or websites.

Creating Color Prints and Transparencies

The center has a Hewlett Packard color laser printer to support your color printing needs. Faculty and staff may use the color printer for the following:

Practicing Presentations

Our Teaching and Learning Technology classroom (TLT) is a computer integrated classroom and faculty development center. The TLT classroom provides user-friendly access to computers and a stable multimedia projection facility. Faculty and students can use the classroom to practice delivering electronic presentations.

Users must schedule the classroom by calling the Center for Instructional Technology at x87061. sending an e-mail message to Sarah Cheverton, Manager of Faculty Development Services. We encourage faculty to teach in this classroom for experimental teaching and to meet short term technology needs for a particular course.

Creating Graphics

Our graphics software includes Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Fireworks on both the Mac and PC platforms.

It is always helpful to call ahead of time to reserve the equipment. If you need assistance, please let us know when you call to make an appointment. To schedule an appointment, please contact the Center at cit@jmu.edu or call x87061.

To assist you with your graphics needs, the center also houses a CD-ROM library of rights cleared digital photographic images, black and white clip art and color images of people, places and JMU events. In addition, you may purchase a CD of JMU images to be used in your presentations at a cost of $10.

Creating Portable Documents

The CIT has Adobe Acrobat available on both Mac and PC platforms. Use this application to create Portable Document Format (PDF) files which can be viewed, shared, and printed across any platform. Creating Electronic Presentations

All computers in the Center for Instructional Technology have Microsoft PowerPoint installed. PowerPoint allows you to create presentations in all the traditional ways-- as printed handouts, 35mm slides, or overhead transparencies.

Creating Web Pages

Our web page development tools includes Macromedia Dreamweaver for the Macintosh and PC and Microsoft FrontPage for the PC. We also offer beginning and intermediate level workshops on Microsoft FrontPage and Macromedia Dreamweaver. In addition, we offer workshops on coding HTML.
