Registration Policies
Before you register for any of the Center for Instructional Technology's class offerings, it is important
that you understand the registration policies. Answers to many of the Frequently Asked Questions (or FAQ's)
on registration are below.
To register for CIT workshops, call x87061 or register electronically from
this site. Please register early; space is limited. If you do not attend your
scheduled workshop and you do not cancel your reservation with
at least 24 hours notice, your department will be charged $25 for each workshop
you do not attend. Workshops with insufficient registration may be cancelled.
All workshops will be held in Carrier Library, room 37,
unless stated otherwise.
How are CIT workshops different from other computing workshops on campus?
CIT workshops are open to all JMU faculty and staff. Many of our workshops
are intended for faculty who want to integrate the computer as an instructional
tool. In addition, CIT instructors teach "beyond the basics" and also
explain and demonstrate how to use the technology in the classroom.
Faculty and staff may also request that Graduate and Teaching Assistants attend
workshops.
Who can sign up for workshops?
All faculty and staff of JMU (full and part-time) are eligible to participate
in the Center for Instructional Technology (CIT) workshops. Graduate and teaching
assistants will be considered if the workshop has openings,
but priority goes to faculty and staff. Undergraduate students are not eligible
for these workshops except by special permission.
What information is needed in order to register?
Participants should provide name, userid, Peoplesoft ID, phone number, faculty/staff
status and budget account code. If the participant does not provide the budget
code, they will not be registered in
any workshops. The budget code is necessary in case the participant fails to
show for a particular class. In this case, their department account will be
billed a $25 fee for each workshop they do not attend.
How are registrations to be received?
Registrations can be received by:
- Phone - interested individuals may call in their registration x87061.
- Email - interested individuals can email their registration information to cit@jmu.edu.
- On-line registration - through this web site.
Cut-off Date Policy
It is important to register for a workshop as early as possible. The CIT
Training Staff monitors the workshop registration on a daily basis. If a workshop
has fewer than two participants within 24 hours of the class, the session will
be canceled
and dropped from the on-line registration. The participant(s) registered for
the class will be notified by email or by phone about the status of the workshop.
At this time, the participant(s) will be asked to attend
another scheduled session or scheduled for a one-on-one session at the convenience
of the participant and the
instructor.
How does a participant know if they are enrolled in a workshop?
Participants will receive an electronic message soon after registering to let you know that your registration has
been received. A reminder about the upcoming workshop will also be sent to the participant by email at least two
workdays prior to the workshop. Participants placed on a waiting list will also be notified of their status at
least three days prior to the workshop.
What if a participant fails to show for a workshop?
If a participant withdraws from their requested workshop with more than 24 hours notice they will not be subject to a
penalty. If they give less than 24 hours notice or simply fail to show for class, their department will be assessed a fee of $25.
There will always be special cases for workshop attendance such as illness,
work emergency, etc. The decision of whether or not to charge a department
will be made by Sarah Cheverton, Manager of Faculty Development Services.
How is the wait list handled?
Our training room can accommodate ten participants for hands-on workshops and up to 30 participants for
presentations, demonstrations, discussions, etc. Registrants are handled on a first come first served basis.
If a registered participant withdraws from a full workshop within the proper timeframe, the first individual
on the wait list will be contacted and it will be determined if they are still able to take the workshop. If
not, the next person on the wait list will be contacted, etc.
If there are three or more names on the wait list, another section will be scheduled.
